Good City Dog combines several different training methods with focus on a more individualized approach for both dog and owner. It is the relationship between dog and human that drives everything.

Trainer, Tara Wood achieves this goal by working with the dogs in her private home with her family and her own two dogs.  The trainees are not put into kennel runs at night but instead sleep in the home, in the bedroom in their crates with the “family”.  Unless otherwise requested by the trainee’s owner, of course.

The trainee’s learn real life behavioral skills along with traditional command work by being fully immersed in “real life” with several one-on-one lessons.

This method strives to meet the needs of the dog and the trainer/owner to foster communication, and to strengthen their bond. Basically, it’s about being mutually beneficial.

TESTIMONIALS

The owner learns know how to read their dog’s body language, what rewards most motivate their dog, and how to meet their dog’s basic needs.
Positive reinforcement encourages good behaviors.
The dog’s environment is controlled to limit possible unwanted behaviors. New information is built on previous success.
For example, a dog must learn to “sit” in a quiet room before trying to perform the command in a park with squirrels and kids and other distractions. Difficulty increases gradually.

When a dog doesn’t perform the desired behavior, the owner must figure out why instead of punishing. Is the dog focusing on distractions? Hurt? Unable to hear? Or just unwilling to perform?  Then learn to positively motivate desired results.

With time and patience this relationship-based training leads to a deep and meaningful bond.

BOARD & TRAIN BOOTCAMP

CRATE TRAINING

A dog crate is a great addition to any dog-owning home. It’s a safe and secure place for your dog to just chill out, spend secluded time away from the household and have his very own doggie bedroom.

LEASH WORK

Everyone wants their dog to walk politely on leash without pulling!  We train in a way that your dog absolutely loves it!

SOCIALIZATION

Your dog will learn to interact with other dogs, animals and people in various situations so they are happy and confident in their environment.

APPLICABLE TO REAL LIFE

Your dog will stay with our family in our home and learn how to apply his lesson to real life.  Learning to be polite around the house, not go in the garbage and politely lay in his bed during mealtimes.

TAILORED TO YOU

We address the specific needs of your pet and your home. There’s things all dogs should learn and there’s things that are unique to dogs and situations, we take those things into consideration and apply to the training focus.
